Edradour Distillery Information
Scotland's smallest distillery is also one of the most visited. The distillery only produces in one year what a large distillery can produce in one week. Remembering that every visitor receives a free dram at the end of the tour, there must be quite a large percentage of Edradour's whisky that goes to the one hundred thousand visitors that trek through the small distillery each year!

This does mean that although it is a picturesque distillery, tours are often squashed and cramped - don't let that stop you going though. It is fascinating to see the entire process as it would have appeared to the farmers of old (although the whisky is a mite better now than it would have been!).

Edradour claims to have been founded in 1825 although the distillery dates later than that. The distillery has always remained small with just two stills. The distillery is so small that it only takes three employees to run it (one of them being the manager). Everything is done by hand including the shovelling of the draff into the farmers trailer; possibly a sight you will not see at a distillery anywhere else in the world.
The only trace of peat in Edradour comes from the spring water of nearby Moulin Moor. The malt is unpeated and the spirit is distilled via a single pair of the smallest stills possible. A purifier is used to lighten the spirit before setting it into ex-sherry casks to mature.
EDRADOUR 10 YEAR-OLD 40%
Aged for at least ten years in ex-bourbon oak until being finished in Oloroso casks and then Pedro Ximenez casks.
Nose Powerful rich sherry, vanilla and tangerine smells. Cake icing. Extremely sweet.
Palate Soft icing. Sumptuous vanilla. Quite dry and heavy.
Finish     Medium finish with a delicious soft vanilla aftertaste.
Comment This is a whisky that should spend more time in the mouth than being sniffed. Utterly delicious - savour it, but definitely drink it!
